September 8 - 12 Assignments listed here represent the "Plan" for the week. Plans of course are subject to change as needed, so this should not be considered the last word on what will take place in class or will be assigned for homework. When plans do change however, the changes will be reflected here (hopefully by the evening of the day in which they are known to exist).

Students will take the NWEA Language
Arts diagnostic today to establish a baseline measurement of their
current skill levels.

Students who finish the test may
complete any missing work or read their novel.
Homework: Students should take home
their novel and begin their nightly 30 minutes of independent
reading.

Students will finish the NWEA
Language Arts diagnostic today to establish a baseline measurement
of their current skill levels.

Students will use any remaining time
to read their independent reading novel.
Homework: Students should take home
their novel and begin their nightly 30 minutes of independent
reading.

Wednesday - PLC Schedule
-
Students will begin be introduced to
the Weekly Word Work vocabulary expansion assignment. The
process will be modeled and students will note the various parts of
the process for that word. This will give them an example and
will serve as their 1st of two words that are due for the week.
Students will be given any remaining time to complete to use their
novel to pull their 2nd word for the week.

Students will end the class looking
at the relationship between weekly word work and the reading log
they will begin next week documenting their independent reading.
Homework: Students should take home
their novel and begin their nightly 30 minutes of independent
reading.

Thursday

Students will begin class with 10
minutes of independent reading.

Students will then return to the
Lorax Analysis we began last week and quickly review the symbolism
they noted reflecting the ideas that each of the characters
represented in the story.

We will then view and take notes on a
brief video illustrating the process of finding the theme of a
story. Students will apply the literature pyramid to the story
and finish the class with a thematic statment reflecting the message
they take from the Dr. Seuss story, "The Lorax."
Homework: Students should take home
their novel and begin their nightly 30 minutes of independent
reading.

Students will begin class with 10
minutes of independent reading.

Students will then take the Grammar
Income Test establishing a relationship between their grammatical
skills and their future ability to earn an income. Once
everyone has finished we will review and discuss the results.

Students will finish the class with a
brief lesson on how to document their independent reading using the
weekly reading log, which we will begin using next week.
Homework: Students who are current on
their assignments do not have homework this weekend.
