April 8 - 12

Assignments listed here represent the "Plan" for the week.  Plans of course are subject to change as needed, so this should not be considered the last word on what will take place in class or will be assigned for homework.  When plans do change however, the changes will be reflected here (hopefully by the evening of the day in which they are known to exist).

This week we continue finish up the ELA MCAS test and continue Unit 4: Moment of Truth

Students who need extra assistance or need to discuss their projects may clip this pass and use it to see me Tuesday - Thursday in the morning before school.

Extra Help is available this week.

Students may use this pass to get help with assigned work
or to discuss Book Projects and Presentations.

Students without passes may not be permitted
to enter the
building before school.

All 7th Grade ELA Classes

Monday

  • Students will create a new team identity with their new teammates using the Uncommon Commonalities teambuilding process.  They will discover characteristics that they have in common and use those characteristics to come to consensus on a team identity, which they will share with the class.

  • We will end the class with a review of test taking tips for tomorrow's MCAS test before transioning to WIN time.

  • WIN time will be committed to Independent reading work.

Homework:  Students should be reading at least 30 minutes per night and documenting their reading daily on their reading logs.  They should also complete the 2 Word Work Words based on their independent reading this week.

Tuesday - MCAS Testing

  • Students will report to Homeroom and Prepare for the 2nd half of the MCAS ELA test.

  • Students will take the test for the majority of the day before heading to specials.

  • Students who finish this portion of the test may read their book.

Homework:  Students should be reading at least 30 minutes per night and documenting their reading daily on their reading logs.  They should also complete the 2 Word Work Words based on their independent reading this week.

Wednesday

  • Students will begin class with a brief introduction to Kurt Vonnegut.  We will view a mini-biography about him and make predictions about what to expect from a Vonnegut title.

  • Students will then view a short video on the concept of Distopia before diving into a classic Kurt Vonnegut exploration of the concept.

  • Students will then collaboratively read, discuss, and annotate "Harrison Bergeron." Following their completion of the reading, student teams will discuss the "Text Talk" questions which will then be reviewed and discussed with the full class.

  • WIN time will be committed to Independent reading work.

Homework:  Students should be reading at least 30 minutes per night and documenting their reading daily on their reading logs.  They should also complete the 2 Word Work Words based on their independent reading this week.

Thursday

  • Students will begin class discussing their responses to yesterday's text talk on their frist reading of "Harrison Bergeron."

  • Students will then experience a second reading of the "Harrison Bergeron" accompanied by a dramatization of the text.  Students will compare their two reading experiences before taking the reading comprehension quiz on the short story.

  • WIN time will be committed to Independent reading work.

Homework:  Students should be reading at least 30 minutes per night and documenting their reading daily on their reading logs.  They should also complete the 2 Word Work Words based on their independent reading this week.

Friday

  • Students will begin class with the Friday Funny Bone inferential activity and then move on to a discussion over their experience with Harrison Bergeron.

  • Students will then independently apply the ABCs to their responses to the "Think" questions and finish up their week with the completion of the week in review.

  • WIN time will be committed to Independent reading work.

Homework:  Students who have completed their work for the week have no additional homework, but may want to read their book project books over Spring Break so they stay on track to finish their reading when they return from vacation.
