December  11 - 15

Assignments listed here represent the "Plan" for the week.  Plans of course are subject to change as needed, so this should not be considered the last word on what will take place in class or will be assigned for homework.  When plans do change however, the changes will be reflected here (hopefully by the evening of the day in which they are known to exist).

Book Projects and Presentations are due in Next Week,  Wednesday December 18th.  See Calendar on Monday for details on where you should be with the project by now.

All 7th Grade ELA Classes

Monday

  • Students will begin the day with viewing a video giving them some background on "The Highwayman."

  • Students will then complete a first reading of the poem, annotating significant passages.

  • Students will then join their collaborative team where they will complete a Text Talk exploring some of the basic facts of the poem.  Results will be shared and discussed with the class, before students begin individual responses to three "Think" questions on their Interactive notebook page.  Students who do not finish their written responses should do so for homework.

  • WIN Time

Homework: Students should read their independent reading novel for 30 minutes tonight and document their reading on their reading log. There is no Word Work this week, but students have a Dialectical Response to complete on a poem they have read during Unit 2.  Students should also be working steadily to complete their book projects and presentations, which are due next week.

Tuesday

  • Students will begin class with a brief discussion of yesterday's responses to the Think Questions before completing a Close read of the text.

  • Students will collaboratively consider each individual stanza as they break it down for specific elements.  Students may use the audio version to complete the reading of each stanza, but they will be pausing it to answer the related questions for each stanza.  The results will be shared and discussed.
