Assignments listed here represent the "Plan" for the week.  Plans of course are subject to change as needed, so this should not be considered the last word on what will take place in class or will be assigned for homework.  When plans do change however, the changes will be reflected here (hopefully by the evening of the day in which they are known to exist).

Students complete their Literary Analysis Essay that was begun last week.

Students who need extra assistance or need to discuss their essays may may contact me before 7:30 and be at the Walker's entrance to the upper school at that time for additional help.

All 7th Grade ELA Classes

Monday

  • Students will begin class with a look over the objectives for the week as noted in their Interactive Notebook for Week 20.

  • Students will begin the day with quick review of the Rough Draft Checklist as it relates to the body of their Literary Analysis Essay.  We will examine a student example of a body paragraph and dicuss the strengths and the needs of the work. 

  • Students will then continue their work on their own Literary Analysis Essay Drafts.  Students will be encouraged to use what we noted during the lesson to improve their own introductions before completing the body of their papers.

Homework: Students who have not completed the first three paragraphs of their papers should be doing so for homework.  Students have 5 nights of independent reading (at least 30 minutes).

Tuesday

  • Students will begin the day with quick review of the Rough Draft Checklist as it relates to the Conclusion of their Literary Analysis Essay.  We will examine a student example of a conclusion and dicuss the strengths and the needs of the work. 

  • Students will then complete the 1st Drafts of the Literary Analysis Essay.

Homework: Students who have not completed the 1st Draft of  their Literary Analysis Essay should be doing so for homework.  Students have 5 nights of independent reading (at least 30 minutes).

Wednesday

  • Students review the Peer Evaluaion and Feedback process along with the documents they will use to implement it with a partner.

  • Students will then take a partner's essay through the Peer Evaluation Process and evaluate the current state of their partners work making suggestions for what might be done to strengthen the essay.

  • Students will read their partners assessment of their drafts and complete the Self Assessment Commentary discussing what they still need to do to improve their papers.

Homework: Students who have not completed the 1st Draft of  their Literary Analysis Essay have gotten behind, and should be doing so for homework. Students have 5 nights of independent reading (at least 30 minutes).

Thursday

  • Students will begin the i-Ready Reading Diagnostic.

  • Students who finish in class may work on needed revisions of their Literary Analysis Essay.

Homework: Students have 5 nights of independent reading (at least 30 minutes).

Friday

  • Students will continue the i-Ready Reading Diagnostic if they didn't finish yesterday.

  • Students will use remaining time to complete the revisions of their Literary Analysis Essay and finish any unfinished work for the week.

Homework: Students who have finished their work for the week have no additional homework over the weekend.
