February 19 - 23

Assignments listed here represent the "Plan" for the week.  Plans of course are subject to change as needed, so this should not be considered the last word on what will take place in class or will be assigned for homework.  When plans do change however, the changes will be reflected here (hopefully by the evening of the day in which they are known to exist).

2nd Semester Book Project Presentation Dates are now posted.
Presentations are now only 3 weeks away.

Mr. Ott will be available for after school tutorial
Monday through Thursday of this week.

After school tutorial is available this week.

Students may use this pass to get help with assigned work
or to discuss Book Projects and Presentations.

Students without passes may not be permitted
to enter the
building before school.

All 8th Grade ELA  Classes  

Monday

  • Presidents Day Holiday - Students enjoy the day off.

 

Tuesday

  • Students will move immediately to the lab to complete the Bi-Weekly test or to complete their Gettysburg Speeches TREES assignment which we began last week.
  • Students who did not take the test Friday due to the field trip will complete the assessment.  Students who were able to complete the test will finish their TREES.

Homework: Students have Dialectic Response due this week.  It may come from the novel they are currently reading or from the classroom reading this week.

Wednesday

  • Students will review the Persuasive Appeals and Rhetorical Devices before taking another look at Sojourner's "Ain't I a Woman" speech.
  • Students will examine the impact of her use of Rhetorical Devices and before constructing a written response examining how she used the devices to address the opposing point of view in her audience.

Homework: Students have Dialectic Response due this week.  It may come from the novel they are currently reading or from the classroom reading this week.

Thursday

  • Students will complete their final TREES assignment addressing how Sojourner Truth used the Rhetorical Devices to address the opposing point of view on the issue of women's rights.
  • Students will share their responses with their team and select a representative to share their work with the class.
  • Class will end with a brief discussion about homework and tomorrow's final Bi-Weekly Assessment.

Homework: Students have Dialectic Response due this week.  It may come from the novel they are currently reading or from the classroom reading this week.

Friday 

  • Students will examine and score a sample book project and presentation in preparation for their own presentations that are quickly arriving the second week of March.

Homework: Students who have finished all assignments for the week do not have any additional homework with the exception of making progress on their upcoming book project and presentation.
